Cost Effective Recycling & Landfill Tax |

|
The cost of landfill has two elements. The cost the operator charges for
landfill, the operator sets themselves, and Landfill Tax.
Landfill Tax is set by the government and is currently £32.00 per tonne,
but is due to rise by £8.00 per annum until 2011.
The purpose of creating the landfill tax is to:
• Reduce the amount of rubbish thrown away in landfill sites through
increasing the cost of landfill; and
• Increase the use of more environmentally friendly waste management
techniques such as recycling
The rising cost of throwing materials away is growing at a far greater
rate than inflation. Almost without exception recycling is not only more
environmentally friendly, but invariably is a more cost-effective
option.
